INAUGURATION AT TOWN HALL

About 20 Glen Echoans joined to watch the inauguration of Barack Obama on Jan. 21 at a festively decorated town hall. Flags and bunting were positioned along railings, walls, and tables and food, snacks and drinks were plentiful, brought by the guests.
Steve Matney set up the sound system; Susan Grigsby did the decorating and contributed a Senate Bean Soup. David Kirchner made chili, and Andrea Matney put out the flier advertising the event and made mulled cider. Punctuating the celebration were several champagne corks, the bottle contents being passed around.
For those reluctant to join the millions on the mall, it was an appropriately enthusiastic community event.

BEING OFFERED AT CHURCH ANNEX

Glen Echo residents are invited to have professional portraits taken in February at the Annex of the Baptist Church on the corner of Harvard and University Aves. There is no charge for the photos. They are a gift of the Baptist Church to the town.
Informal photos will be taken on the Sundays of Feb. 8 and Feb. 22 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. (or later if necessary). The church also invites you to capture the romance of Valentine’s Day with a more formal portrait of you and the special person in your life on Feb. 11, 12, and 13, from 5:30-9:00 p.m. All are welcome and no appointments are necessary for these dates.
Tom Meeks, the photographer, is especially eager to have your pets photographed in order to give a photo book to Glen Echo for its historical archives.
He is also ready to take photos at another time, if the above-mentioned dates are not convenient. For an appointment, call him at 240-252-0602.
Several town residents have already had their pictures taken, which can be viewed at http://www.flickr.com/photos/27657433@N08/sets/. For the children, Mr. Meeks creates 13x19 cartoon posters as part of the fun, and also “elf”s the family, which makes a hilarious moving cartoon with the heads of the family (and pets) on dancing elves.
