Text Box: WELCOME, NEWCOMERS!

Last August Willard and Jeanette Rockwell moved to Glen Echo from Cape Cod to live with their daughter, Beth Rockwell, and her husband, Jim Ford at 7100 University Ave.
Since they were nearing 90 years old, their children wanted them to be much closer. They also have a son, Christopher, who lives with his wife, Susan, in Williamsburg, Va., and the move has made it possible for the family to get together much more regularly.
The Rockwell parents originally hailed from Clinton, N.Y. (as did Glen Echo's Jim Shaut) but after a few years of retirement in cold, snowy upstate New York, they moved to the more temperate Cape Cod about 25 years ago. Before their retirement, Willard was an electronics salesman and Jeanette was a nurse. They have four grandchildren, James and Christopher, Jr., who are sons of Christopher, and Kate and Malcolm, who are Beth's children.
Since their arrival in Glen Echo, Willard most particularly has missed curling and was very active with the sport up until the move. Jeanette was also busy with her church, the garden club and a bridge group. In fact, she is currently looking to put together a relaxed, fun group for bridge here in Glen Echo. If you are interested, please call her at (301) 320-5188!

Text Box: SNOW REMINDER

Residents are asked to shovel the snow off the sidewalks alongside their properties as soon as possible so that pedestrians can walk in safety. This should be done promptly because unshoveled snow often freezes and remains on the ground for days.
It is essential that snow is shoveled all the way to the next resident’s property line so that no swath of ice remains for pedestrians to either slip on or have to walk in the street to avoid.
Under Maryland state common law a property owner has the duty to keep walkways shoveled to avoid a hazardous condition.
