Text Box: NEW BABY ON BRYN MAWR

Cassidy Brooke joined the Wolf family of Bryn Mawr Ave. on Nov. 25 at 8:23 p.m. at Georgetown University Hospital. She weighed 8 lbs., 6 ounces and measured 21- 1/4 inches. She and mother Kathleen came home to join father Mark in time to celebrate Thanksgiving and give thanks for Cassidy.
Everyone is doing well and 10-year-old greyhound Ash has welcomed Cassidy warmly. He is sure the nursery rug was bought just for his comfort!
Text Box: RESIDENTS CONCERNED ABOUT
CARS ON MACARTHUR BIKE PATH

Spurred by experiences Andrea Bassing Matney outlined in the Glen Echo yahoo listserv, residents have been showing concern about the dangers on MacArthur Blvd. when vehicles swerve into the bike path lanes. Several responded on the community list with similar experiences and worries.
As Andrea, a bicycle commuter, first wrote, “three times within the last two weeks I have had cars drive straight towards me on the MacArthur Blvd. bike path. between Brookmont and Glen Echo… I ride typically between 6:00-6:30 pm heading from D.C. to Glen Echo. I wear reflective gear, red rear blinking lights, a bright front light, and another bright blinking front light on my handle bars, but these vehicles…are driving on the path as if it is the road.
“One of the cars was on the path, going full speed, and heading straight for me. I had to go into the road, on the other side of the new, white, poll barriers, to avoid being hit. This put me into the lane of oncoming traffic, but I was lucky no one was coming. The car passed on my left side and as it continued down the path. I was left gasping for air from hyperventilating because it scared me so much.
“The new pylons along MacArthur Blvd. help a little, but not much. I also think that reflectors built into the road along with rumble strips every "x" number of feet would help. I have added more lights to my bicycle. If you see what appears to be a lighted, blinking Christmas tree riding down the path, you'll know that it is me.
Until serious changes are made, I am doing the following and you can help . . .
 1) Requesting that burnt-out lights on MacArthur Blvd. be replaced. You can report them to: http://www.pepco.com/home/requests/outage/streetLight/default.aspx or call 1-877-PEPCO62 (1-877-737-2662).
2) Drafting a letter to send to local government officials and bicycle advocacy groups. Anyone have an incident that they would like to add? If yes, provide what happened including specific information such as the date, time, location, lighting and weather conditions if possible. Send directly it to me at abassing@yahoo.com by December 30.
