Text Box: PARK MAY INCREASE
PRICE OF CAROUSEL RIDES
By Tom Helf

The new National Park Service budget is calling for an increase in the cost of a ride on Glen Echo Park’s Dentzel Carousel to $1.25, according to park site manager Kym Elder.
At the July town council meeting, Ms. Elder said that, while the budget had not yet been approved, NPS believes the boost is necessary because of increasing utility costs. In addition, it surveyed other area carousels (e.g., the carousel on the Mall), and determined that, even at $1.25 per ride, the cost would be less than that charged by most others.
In response, Mayor Debbie Beers voiced her strong objection to such a price increase. As recently as two years ago, Mayor Beers noted, the cost of a ride was only $.50. She also expressed her concern that the cost would be prohibitive to families who ride the carousel on a regular basis; specifically, town residents. Mayor Beers added that she did not think the carousel should be a “cash cow,” and that the GEPPAC budget already includes funds dedicated to the upkeep of the carousel.
Ms. Elder responded that approximately 75% of the proceeds from ticket sales go directly to maintenance of the carousel. She also said that GEPPAC had been putting pressure on NPS to increase the carousel’s hours of operation, but that NPS held firm in maintaining the current hours of operation so as to limit the wear and tear on the carousel equipment. However, she advised that she would communicate the town’s concerns to the National Park Service prior to its decision on the upcoming budget.

It should say Wealth Management & Financial Planning . II have been trying to get them to get a new ad made which will have the clarity of the picture we used in the April issue but say what they put in in the May and June issues.. I made clear it is not our problem but if you have any brilliant ideas (I know you do, but I mean relative to this problem) let me know.
