Text Box: TOWN COUNCIL NOTES
Mar. 10

Councilmember Nancy Long said Glen Echo Park is seeking a replacement for the weeping willow at the east end of University Avenue. This once-grand tree, always the earliest tree in town to leaf out, was the unfortunate victim of a ferocious autumn storm. Despite the best efforts of the Park, the tree could not be saved ..

Mayor Beers described an email that she had forwarded to the council about an apparent rash of automobile break-ins occurring in the parking lots along the Clara Barton Parkway between Locks 5 and 10. She added that people should report any suspicious activity to the Park Police…

With spring events at the park resulting in an influx of visitors, Mayor Beers proposed the possibility of hiring police to issue speeding tickets..

Councilmember Long stated that the town has not yet formally agreed to award $5,655 to John Shorb Landscaping for a one-year maintenance agreement for the town parks. She added that an additional monthly charge would be required for watering.
Because another proposal was substantially lower, Ms. Long was questioned about the need to award the contract to Shorb. She responded that a major appeal of the Shorb proposal is the firm’s willingness to accept responsibility for the health of the plants. Councilmember Long agreed to contact the firm to negotiate a lower price, hopefully eliminating the watering charge ..
