Text Box: SNOW THAT DIDN’T MELT FOR WEEKS

Almost all Glen Echo residents shoveled the snow off the entire length of their sidewalks after the early January snowfall. However, any snow that was left on the sidewalks remained icy for weeks thereafter. The result was that for weeks pedestrian had to walk in the street when they reached an unshoveled area. This was particularly hazardous at night.
It is essential that snow is shoveled all the way to the next resident’s property line so that no swath of ice remains for pedestrians to either slip on or have to walk in the street to avoid.
Under Maryland state common law a property owner has the duty to keep walkways sabutting his/her property hoveled to avoid a hazardous condition.
