Text Box: WELCOME, NEWCOMERS!
Text Box: .Cynthia Word and her husband, Danny Banner, took residence at 7311 University Ave. in November, along with Beau, a two-year-old English cocker spaniel. They came here from Somerset Village, although they own a house in Annapolis, where they spend many weekends enjoying boating in their power boat.

Fans of modern dance will be intrigued to learn that Cynthia is an exponent of the dances of modern dance pioneers, Isadora Duncan and Ruth St. Denis. Cynthia is the Founder and Director of Word Dance Theater, which rehearses at the Joy of Motion studio, and performs regularly in the area. Their next program of Duncan works will take place on March 2 during the “Women Who Wow” festival from noon-4 p.m. at the National Museum for Women in the Arts. In May, she will perform a Duncan program at the Ratner Museum at 10001 Old Georgetown Rd., possibly using only Chopin music. She teaches Modern Dance at the National Cathedral School, and is a teaching artist for the Kennedy Center’s Professional Development Opportunities for Teachers.

Danny owns a recruiting firm, Banner Associates, located at 3 Bethesda Metro. He was born and raised in Bethesda, graduating from Walt Whitman and from Ohio Wesleyan University. In addition to boating Danny is an enthusiastic basketball player.

Danny and Cynthia are delighted to be living in Glen Echo. They especially appreciate the welcoming neighbors, the strong sense of history, and the proximity to the Glen Echo Park.
Text Box: It seems that people are telling their relatives about what a great place this is to live. Holly Sheldon, who moved in November to 6105 Yale Ave. with her husband Chris, and two children, is the daughter of Holly Shimizu’s sister and is named after her. She has visited her aunt here many times in the past.
Their children, Willoughby (“Willo”), 5, and Knowles (“Noey”), 2-1/2, attend the Bethesda Community School off Wilson Lane.
Although they bought the house in January, it took many months to get the necessary permits and have a major renovation done, one of several that the house has experienced. Despite the fact that it is just over 100 years old, “there probably isn’t a piece of the original house here anymore,” according to Chris.
Before moving to this area, Chris and Holly spent eight years in Chicago. For a year or two and during the renovation, they lived with Holly’s parents in Chevy Chase.
Chris is the art director of Arnold Worldwide of McClean as well as an artist himself, working in acrylics.
Holly, a college English major, was a copywriter with the same firm until her children were born; she now does free-lance copywriting out of her home.
They met while attending the School for Advertising in Richmond, Va.
Chris is enthusiastic about having a nice plot of land for gardening, and Holly plans to continue doing various forms of needlework.
