Text Box: LOCAL ARTIST CREATES
BARTON COLORING BOOK

Clara Barton National Historic Site announces a new publication, “A Story of Clara Barton Coloring Book.”
This one-of-a-kind biography combines 32 wonderfully drawn coloring book illustrations with the story of Clara Barton’s incredible life and accomplishments. The artwork was created by local artist Cathie Nelsen.
The coloring book illustrations capture the spirit of Clara Barton as a person. Younger children will enjoy the simple open style of Cathie Nelsen’s pen and ink drawing, while coloring artists with more skill will enjoy the elegance of her details.
Many of the illustrations were based on historic photographs.
Cathie Nelsen has been a Resident Artist and art teacher at Glen Echo Park since 1992. She is one of the co-teachers of the popular “The Young Creative Spirit” camps and numerous children’s art classes held year round at Glen Echo Park. She was the illustrator of the Glen Echo Park brochures from 1993 until 2003. As a long-time admirer of Clara Barton she enjoyed working to bring Clara Barton's story to children in an entertaining and educational way.
The coloring book retails for $ 5.95 and is available for sale at the Clara Barton National Historic Site bookstore.
