Text Box: COUNTY EVALUATING TOWN’S
STORM DRAIN SYSTEM

The county Department of Public Works and Transportation has sent letters to Glen Echo town residents notifying them of the commencement of survey work on the town drain system in order to determine what, if any, changes need to be made in the present system.
The survey is being carried out at the request of the town.
The letter states that in order to perform surveys and obtain the needed information, the surveyors may need to enter town properties. Although the county intends to take “every possible precaution to assure that your property is not damaged in any way during the conduct of this work,” it may be necessary to locate survey markets on residents’ properties.
Residents are requested not to disturb any markers that are set.
The county has the legal right to enter town properties for this purpose.
Any questions should be addressed to Michael F. Mitchell, Senior Engineer at 240-777-7262 or Michael.mitchell@montgomerycountym.gov.

ABOUT LEFTOVER LATEX PAINT

Tens of thousands of tax dollars are spent each year disposing of latex paint as hazardous waste when in fact it is not hazardous.
Latex paint can be safely home managed, according to the county Division of Solid Waste Services.
Here’s how the county advises you to deal with latex paint:
1.	Use it up when possible as a primer coat where the final finish is not critical.
2.	Add Waste Paint Hardener for 30 minutes. The paint is now thick enough to be put in with your regular trash
3.	Donate unopened cans to neighbors or community groups
4.	Simply remove the lid and place the paint in a safe, well-ventilated area until it dries up, then put in with your regular trash
Dried paint in cans can be burned for energy in the county’s Waste-to-Energy Facility. At the end of the burn cycle, an electromagnet removes all ferrous metals, including paint cans, to complete the recycling process.
