Text Box: TOWN COUNCIL NOTES
April 9

The date for the hearing on the Town’s budget for the 2007-08 fiscal year will be set at the May Town Council meeting.

The Town Council has begun soliciting bids for an engineering study on town streets and what road repairs and storm water management measures might be needed. As of this meeting, the town had received one proposal from A. Morton Thomas and Associates, and was expecting at least one other.

Following up on the recent Maryland legislation authorizing municipalities to purchase street lights from PEPCO, Town resident Gloria Levin has graciously agreed to investigate the costs of the various options, and also to canvass other county municipalities to gather information. Upon completion of this project, Ms. Levin will report back to the town council so that it can decide whether it should purchase the street lights.

On behalf of the town, Councilmember Nancy Long will be contacting local landscaping firms to solicit bids to improve the property recently donated by the Estate of Shirley Strong. The lot in question is located at the southeast corner of University and Princeton Aves., and is approximately the same size as the town park across the street.

Now that Glen Echo Park events are becoming more frequent, the Montgomery County police have begun to monitor traffic on Oxford Rd. in an effort to cut down on speeding and motorists running the stop sign at the corner of University Avenue.
