The District 16 state legislative team of Senator Brian Frosh and Delegates Bill Bronrott, Marilyn Goldwater and Susan Lee will hold a town hall meeting to report back to the community on the recently concluded 2007 Maryland General Assembly session on Monday, May 7, 2007, from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. at the Bethesda Library, 7400 Arlington Road, Bethesda, Maryland (two blocks west of Bethesda Metro).
This is an opportunity to make your voice heard.

Text Box: There will be a dedication for the bench at the Clara Barton Community Center that has been placed at the entrance as a memorial to Diane Leatherman on Saturday, May 19, at 5:00 p.m….

Town Councilman Steve Matney will be entering a kinetic sculpture called “Jazz Hands” in the Kinetic Sculpture Race in Baltimore on Saturday, May 5.  It is based on the phrase   “Jazz Hands” from the movie “All That Jazz.”  The central part will be two eight-foot high hands and he’s hoping they can have a band playing on the sculpture as well…

Now in the Quiet Town of Glen Echo A New Mask Will Be Worn, Born of Blood and a Lot of Cardio.”  So goes the ad for “Behind the Mask—The Rise of Leslie Vernon,” a recently-released film. Before you double-lock all your doors, however, you might ponder the fact that this film about a serial killer in a small town was actually shot in Portland, Ore., and h as no known connection to our town...

Phyllis Daen and friends performed a lovely concert at the Glen Echo Town Hall on April 22 as part of the ongoing Chautauqua series of town events.  They began with a Mozart clarinet duet played by Al Vecchione and Nancy Sulfridge.  Several songs by soprano Beth Lawrence included ones by Gottfried Herrman, from several musicals, and from Ireland.  Piano accompaniment was by resident Phyllis Daen.  The concert was arranged by Town Councilwoman Nancy Long….

A book about the history of Cabin John is now underway, being researched and written by Judy Welles.  One of the first historical nuggets she discovered was that as early as 1803 there was a mill house in Cabin John near Cabin John Creek.  Cabin John Mills was able to mill from 40-50 barrels of flour a day, according to a 1821 issue of the Newspaper Daily National Intelligencer, the Cabin John Village News reported…

Resident Melinda Henneberger will be speaking about her new book, “If They Only Listened to Us” at Politics and Prose Bookstore on Saturday, May 19, at 1:00 p.m….

The Charles F. Mercer mule-drawn canal boat is now operating from Great Falls Tavern for public rides with costumed volunteers and musicians.  It will operate Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.  Rides are $7 for adults and $5 for seniors or children.  Call 301-767-3714 for reservations….

CLARA BARTON CENTER PROJECTS

	The Montgomery County Department of Recreation has confirmed dates for the public input meetings for the possible projects for rehabilitation of eight county recreation centers.  The one for the Clara Barton Community Center in Cabin John has been set for Thursday, May 10 at 7:00 p.m.. at the Center at 7425 MacArthur Blvd.  Be there if you care about improving the Center.
