Text Box: TOWN COUNCIL NOTES
December 11

The council approved the Verizon Cable TV franchise. The agreement allows Verizon to provide cable television in competition with Comcast. Montgomery County negotiated the contract on behalf of municipalities, such as Glen Echo. Mayor Beers emphasized this simply allows consumers to decide between the two cable providers. The town will receive a $1,200 stipend for signing the franchise agreement.

The town has a new copier. It is able to make double-sided copies so the town can save paper.

The town will continue to distribute the agenda via email and not on the website. Posting on the town website was determined to be difficult because it is hard to quickly update the page with changes to the agenda.

Mayor Beers would like to have a decision made about the HVAC system at the town hall soon. Bids are still being collected and she would like to make a decision at the next council meeting. Since she will be out of town on January 8 (the next scheduled council meeting date) an emergency meeting was called for January 5. This will not replace the regular council meeting.

The town is still soliciting bids for street repairs. One contractor has not yet provided a quote and another contacted contractor doesn’t do the work himself but promises to send a list of recommendations.

Councilmember Nancy Long wants to work in conjunction with Garrett Park on traffic safety issues. She noted there is a lot of attention currently being paid to the subject as a result of the recent death of a boy crossing the street in Garrett Park. Mayor Beers agreed with the proposal and said she would like to pursue this in conjunction with Bannockburn.
