Text Box: TOWN JOURNALIST HIRED AS
POLITICAL EDITOR OF BLOG

Resident Melinda Hennenberger has been hired as political editor for a new version of The Huffington Post, one of the most popular political blog sites. She will be hiring other journalists to begin producing original reporting with plans to cover Congress and the 2008 presidential campaign, The New York Times reported.
Ms. Hennenberger, a resident of Oxford Rd., was hired by owner Arianna Huffington to produce reporting “with attitude.” In addition to having investigative reporters, the site will offer video reports. Until now, the 19-month old political website has used opinion and news pieces from wire services and other sources. It has about 2.3 million visitors a month, the Times reported.
Ms. Henneberger was most recently with Newsweek magazine as its political reporter. Prior to moving to Glen Echo, she was Rome bureau chief for the Times. She has written a book about women voters, “If They Only Listened to Us: What Women Voters Want Politicians to Hear,” which will be published by Simon & Schuster and issued May 1.
She said she was joining The Huffington Post because ''it's such a great opportunity to build my own team.'' She is hoping that some of her neighbors in town will think of alerting her “to any news nuggets that come their way.” She can be reached at 301-320-7985 or at Melinda@huffingtonpost.com.

Text Box: commercial zones is much larger.
Councilmember Dan Macy posed a theoretical question to Mr. Leggin about what would happen if he changed his request by asking for a special exception to the R-60 zoning instead of for CT zoning. Mr. Leggin replied that at this point he would have to sell, since he has already put a lot of money into the property as well as pursuing the rezoning and renovation of the house.
Mayor Debbie Beers stated she was going to “break ranks” and that she was in support of Mr. Leggin’s plan. She said that side of town is effectively commercial already and she “doesn’t see a nefarious development” afoot. She also pointed out that, as mayor, she only has a vote in the case of a tie.
She said she did, however, have concerns about how binding the plans Mr. Leggin has submitted are. She is worried they are simply a concept and could get changed as construction progresses. Mr. Leggin said the planning and inspection of the property guard against that.
The town council ultimately decided not to take a position on the approval process. The rezoning of the property tentatively comes up for hearing on March 16.
