The newly-constructed canal boat, the Charles F. Mercer, made her maiden voyage last month along the C&O Canal at Great Falls, Maryland, and through Lock 20 in front of Great Falls Tavern. This replica of a 19th century packet boat is now offering tours for the first time in three years, when the last passenger boat there was damaged beyond repair.
Hour-long canal rides will be available this month on Wednesdays through Sundays at 11:00 and 3:00 for $2 for all ages.
The boat cost $540,000 which was contributed through a fund-raising project organized by the third-graders of Seven Locks Elementary School, and private, state and county donations raised by the Friends of Historic Great Falls Tavern.
