June 11, 4-5 p.m. Old Time Banjo, Sunday.  Hear nationally-known banjo player Reed Martin of Cabin John play claw-hammer banjo with tunes like "New River Train" and "June Apple."

Saturday, June 24, 1-2 p.m. Life by the Canal, Oral History. People who lived next door to the lockhouse on the C&O Canal will tell what it was like to live and play by the canal and Potomac River. 

Sunday, June 25, 3-4 p.m.Canoe Building. Canoeist Jim Ross will tell how to build a canoe by hand and the best places to paddle.  

Lockhouse 8 River Center is on the C&O Canal at end of Riverside Drive in Cabin John.  Parking at Clara Barton Parkway Lock 8 pullout.  All activities are free.

And, don’t forget the Picnic on the Potomac, Saturday, July 8, 4-8 p.m., Carderock Pavilion, Carderock, Md. Bring the entire family to the Potomac Conservancy's 7th annual Picnic on the Potomac. Meet other river lovers, listen to live blue grass and country music, and take part in circle and contra dancing. Admission is free. 	The National Park Service is considering a purchase of the bike path along MacArthur Blvd., Glen Echo Park site manager Kym Elder reported at the May town council meeting…
	
	On July 1, Glen Echo Park will host an event called “Then And Wow.” It will feature an exhibit of historic park items, and a bumper car for kids to play in.  Ms. Elder noted that the bumper car will not be one of the original ones from the amusement park era….

	Discovery Creek has notified the NPS that it is interested in constructing a new facility in the Crystal Pool area of the park, Ms. Elder said.(see article, p.   ).  Mayor Beers requested that the town be given the opportunity to comment and have input on any re-location and construction…

	The Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts and Culture (GEPPAC) is currently working on a three- to five-year strategic plan.  Councilwoman Nancy Long sits on the GEPPAC committee for this purpose, which meets weekly with an outside facilitator.  One of the primary goals of the committee is to foster a better working relationship between the NPS (which owns the Park) and GEPPAC (which operates all of the programs).  Another goal of the committee is to find the right balance between the park’s role as a park, and its need to generate revenue to sustain its many programs…

	The George Washington Parkway sector of the NPS (which oversees Glen Echo Park) will have a new superintendent starting June 10.  He is David Viela, and he and his family are moving here from Texas.
