AROUND TOWN
Text Box: Former residents Kate and Jim Horwitz were stars of the annual Bannockburn spring show last month. “Solid Gold” was the community’s Golden Jubilee show, representing songs written by 133 residents over the past 50 years. One, “Starbucks,” was from the 2001 show and had lyrics by Kate. She and Jim appeared as performers in a number of the others songs. The Horwitz’s moved to Bannockburn several years ago, but have returned each year since to organize Glen Echo’s annual St. Patrick’s Day party.

Text Box: WELCOME NEWCOMERS

Mirian De Ossosrno and Jeremy Norman were in a plaza in Santander on northern coast of Spain when they met in 2001. It had been a long trip there from the River Falls neighborhood off MacArthur Blvd. for Jeremy, and a short one for Mirian, who grew up in Andalucia, Spain.
Both were teachers at the time, she teaching English in Valladolid, Spain and he teaching Spanish with a study abroad program in Santander.
A few years later they married and moved in March to 32 Wellesley Circle from an apartment in the Palisades area. With them came their cat, Danny.
Now Mirian is teaching Spanish at the National Presbyterian School in D.C., and Jeremy is a teacher/coach at Landon, where he went to school. He is an instructor in Spanish and Latin American Studies as well as coaching lacrosse and football.
They are very happy to be living in Glen Echo in a house overlooking parkland and the canal, they say. As a teenager, Jeremy used to fish in the Cabin John Creek every day, and loves the canal.
While at Gettysburg College, Jeremy took part in its study abroad program in Seville, Spain. He then contacted Landon to see if he could intern with their summer in Spain program, which is how he got into education. Mirian applied through the Spanish Embassy to be a visiting teacher in Montgomery County Public Schools, and taught three years at the Westland Middle School. She later taught a semester at Landon before transferring to her present job.
One of Mirian’s hobbies is painting in oils and acrylics, and like, Jeremy, who plays the guitar, looks forward to taking classes at Glen Echo Park.
	Welcome to you both!
