Text Box: SNOW FINALLY APPEARS

It was way into mid-February before Glen Echo had a snow storm, and this one came at just the right time.
Sunday, Feb. 12, residents woke up to a beautiful blanket of fluffy snow, nine inches of it in fact. Since it wasn’t a work day, most people weren’t troubled by the fact that the streets weren’t plowed until after noon. The power didn’t go out, it wasn’t very cold, and only late arrival of the Sunday papers marred the perfection of the day.
January had been the warmest January on record, and children were pining for the chance to go sledding.
In the northern suburbs, however, residents were stunned to find more than 20 inches of snow. Because those areas were still icy the next day, Montgomery County schools remained closed, so most children had an extra day to make snowmen.
