Text Box:  	Nancy Long, a town council member, and Jack Reeder, a resident of University Ave., were sworn in last month for five-year terms on the C&O Canal National Historical Park Commission.  The Commission is a 19-member representative body set up as an advisory board when the park was established in 1971. It gives advice to the National Park Service on such topics as the Great Falls canal boat, Georgetown University boathouse, Swains Lock Operations and the Catoctin Aqueduct…  

	Members of the Glen Echo Heights Citizens Association plan to work with County Councilman Howard A. Denis to draft tougher legislation to protect trees.  Association members propose laws that would require property owners to post notices before cutting down trees, with fines for those who violate the permitting process.  They also want laws requiring tree replacement when trees are cut down for construction…

	The Town of Chevy Chase updated its tree protection ordinance last month.  It requires a permit to remove any “canopy tree,” those that have a circumference of 24 inches or more, the Gazette reported.  Home construction projects must include a detailed tree protection plan to be posted on the property.  Those who violate the ordinance can be fined $1,000.

	The Washington Post review of Tom Helf’s group, Cravin’ Dogs, described its Jan. 27 performance at The Barns at Wolf Trap as “the kind of delirious frenzy they’ve been creating since their founding in 1986.”  The reviewer concluded, “There was no indication the Dogs couldn’t continue for another 20 years.”  Several town residents were there to enjoy the band’s brand of folk rock…

Text Box: ALFRED DE PAOLIS, JR., 1931-2005

	Alfred De Paolis, Jr., known as “Junior,” died on August 23, 2005 in Pocomoke City, Maryland, where he was living with his nephew Michael De Paolis and family.
	Junior lived in Glen Echo for much of his life at 11 Vassar Circle.  His parents Agnes and Albert De Paolis bought the house some 60 years ago.  At one time it was occupied by his brother, Louis and his wife, Jeri.
	Before moving to Pocomoke City, Junior lived with the Michael De Paolis family at the Vassar Circle address.  He was employed doing landscaping at NIH.  He often walked through town with his dog, smoking a pipe, a somewhat stooped over figure who was friendly to all he met.

   AT CLARA BARTON HOUSE	

	Award-winning actress Mary Ann Jung will present a dramatic portrait of “Clara Barton—Red Cross Angel” on Sunday, Mar. 19, at 2:00 p.m. at the Clara Barton National Historical Site in Glen Echo.
	There will be an open house after the performance.
	Ms. Jung was nominated as one of Maryland’s top Women in the Arts by the State of Maryland.
