HUGE SUCCESS

At least 75 residents attended the Dec. 10 holiday pancake breakfast, more than one quarter of townspeople. Because of the constantly moving crowd of animated children and adults, it was impossible to make an accurate count.
An extraordinarily well-planned event, it was put together by the volunteer efforts of at least 22 residents, who were contacted by email by clerk-treasurer Cathie Polak. They offered to cook sausages, make pancake batter, buy ingredients, help set-up, and clean-up what became a most convivial breakfast for all. There was nothing fancy—just good food and good cheer.
Those who contributed to its success were: Jan Shaut, Gloria Levin, Betsy Carpenter, the Steele family, Julia Wilson, Michelle Brafman, Angie Zeidenberg, Eleanor Balaban, Jim and Carlotta Anderson, Robin Kogelnik, Debbie Beers, Raya Bodnarchuk, Alexis Feringa, Jamie Platt, Susan Grigsby, Andrea and Steve Matney, Madeleine Carter and Alec Graham, and Willem and Cathie Polak.
If we left anyone out, it was because so many people were there to help.

PROPERTY TO TOWN
By Jerry Bodlander

University Avenue resident Shirley Strong, who died a few weeks ago, has left a piece of property in her will to the town for use as open space.
Ms. Strong’s niece, Nancy West, told the town council at its December 12 meeting of the bequest for the land, which is at the corner of University and Princeton Avenues (Lot 10, block 9).
While the will must still go through probate, Ms. West told the council she wanted to let them know now so they could decide how they wanted to use the property.
The town is now looking for ideas on the best way to use the land.
Several council members suggested that the parcel should be called ‘’Shirley’s Park.’’
Mayor Beers told Ms. West that the town is very appreciative of the bequest.
Councilmember Nancy Long said the town would never build on the land, nor do anything that would go against Ms. Strong’s philosophies and principles regarding land use.
